Rescuers searching for a missing walker in the Highlands have found a body.

The body was found in the Stob Dubh area of Glen Etive on the second day of a major hunt for the man, who was reported missing after going for a walk in the area.

Search teams found a body about 2.30pm today, Friday, in the area around the 883m (2,897ft) mountain.

Rescuers spent yesterday looking for the solo walker, in his 70s, who had last been seen at noon on Wednesday.

Glencoe, Oban and RAF Leuchars Mountain Rescue Teams, aided by Search and Rescue Dogs Association handlers and animals, resumed the search at 8am today. A Royal Navy Sea King helicopter from HMS Gannet in Ayrshire also joined the search.

Officers from Northern Constabulary and Strathclyde Police were also involved in the operation.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “No further details will be made available until formal identification has taken place and next of kin are aware.”
