A man suffered serious leg injuries in a fall at a Lakeland quarry.

The climber fell while abseiling in Peatfield Quarry near Coniston yesterday.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 4.40pm to the disused site at Hodge Close.

A team spokesperson said: “He was treated for serious leg injuries by team members and medical staff from the Great North Air Ambulance.

“He was then stretchered and hauled out of the quarry, transferred to the helicopter and taken to Preston Royal Infirmary.”

The rescue involved 20 Coniston MRT members as well as ambulance staff and the crew of the air ambulance.
