A couple had to be rescued after getting into difficulties on a Snowdonia mountain.

The pair, from the Wirral, strayed on to steep, rockclimbing ground after attempting the North Ridge of Tryfan.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was called out at 2pm on Saturday after the couple called for help.

Chris Lloyd of the rescue team said they opted to take the Eastern Traverse rather than the more exposed North Tower.

He said: “Having completed the traverse, they made their way up the North Gully but were unable to climb past the chock stone.

“So they decided to return down via the North Gully to Heather Terrace. En route – well above the normal strays – they strayed to the north on to the rockclimbing areas of the East Face, until they could stray no more.

“Shortly after 2pm the team was called. Two OVMRO members were climbing on the main cliff of Glyder Fach, made their way across to the East Face.

“Other members were deployed from the base. The two were located and with the aid of a safety line, were escorted to the path and the correct descent.

“The incident was concluded at about 6.30pm. I think that the two walkers were slightly daunted by the whole affair and this made descent a slow process.”

The incident was the team’s 107th so far this year.
