A walker was rescued from a Lakeland fell in an operation involving two mountain rescue teams.

The man, who was walking alone, injured his knee and called for help after it became too painful to carry on.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 7.45am today, Sunday, and requested help from colleagues from the Kendal team in the incident in Rossett Gill, Great Langdale.

The walker was treated at the scene, about halfway up the gill, and then stretchered to one of the Langdale team’s vehicles, which took him to its base in Ambleside, where he was transferred to an ambulance for further treatment in hospital.

The rescue, carried out in conditions described by the Langdale Ambleside team as very windy, took 4¼ hours.
