The caver was walked back to Bullpot Farm

Rescuers went to the aid of a caver who found herself in a tight squeeze underground.

The 27-year-old got wedged in the Ease Gill system in the western Dales this afternoon while with two other potholers.

She got stuck while descending Pippikin Pot at the Stemple Rift, a narrow section of the route.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted shortly after 3.30pm after one of the party came to the surface to raise the alarm.

A rescue team spokesperson said: “CRO responded and despatched a team in from below via Mistral, and another in at the top.

“Meanwhile the stuck caver managed to free herself and was met by the CRO team in Mistral and escorted out to the surface and up to Bull Pot Farm.”

The rescue was the team’s 66th of the year.

Pippikin Pot lies on the lower reaches of Leck Fell, 3km (2 miles) west of the Yorkshire Dales national park.
