Police have named the man who died in the Cuillin mountains on the Isle of Skye as Mountain Guide Graham Paterson.

Mr Paterson’s body was found by mountain rescuers yesterday, two days after one of his clients reported he had fallen and injured himself.

The 60-year-old, from Carbost on Skye, ran Skye Hi Mountain Guides with his wife Annie and was an experienced mountaineer and hillwalker, operating in the mountains of Skye and the Highlands of Scotland for 17 years.

He is believed to have been leading a client when he fell and injured himself on Thursday afternoon. The walker raised the alarm after coming down from the mountains and a major search involving Skye and Kintail Mountain Rescue Teams, members of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth joined the search.

His body was found about 11am yesterday, Saturday.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
