Anyone venturing on to Scotland's mountains should check weather and avalanche forecasts, police said

Police in the Highlands have appealed to walkers to check weather forecasts and avalanche reports as a yellow warning was issued for snow for the next few hours.

The warning from the Met Office covers much of Scotland, including Highland, Grampian, Strathclyde, Central, Tayside and Fife and south-west Scotland, Lothian and Borders.

Northern Constabulary said: “Hillwalkers should check the forecast and avalanche risks before venturing into the hills and ensure you are well prepared, allowing for shorter daylight hours and rapidly changing conditions.

“If you are travelling on higher routes allow for roads to be affected by snow or ice and please drive according to the conditions.”

The yellow warning is for the period between 6pm today, Monday, and tomorrow at 10am.

Northern Constabulary also said hillgoers can check its website for further advice.
