A road alongside a Highland loch will be closed for more than two months, Scotland’s mountaineering body has warned.

The road along the north shore of Loch Arkaig will be shut for bridge and surface repairs from the end of this month until 5 April.

The Lochaber route is popular with climbers and is also used for access to Glen Dessarry and Glen Pean.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland said: “The contractors have just been appointed and they will be giving weekly updates on the status of the works and the actual sections closed to traffic.

“The contractors will be running a minibus system to transport those wishing to take access along the glen and will arrange a system for picking people up at the end of the day.”

The MCofS said details were still being finalised, but would appear on its website when more information was released.

The council added: “As this is a very popular walking and climbing area we are working closely with the engineers and the contractors to try and ensure that access is made as easy as possible.”

Updates will appear on the MCofS website.
