A paraglider was rescued after he crash-landed on a Lake District fell.

The 42-year-old from Penrith was trying to take off from Carrock Fell today when he hit a pile of boulders shortly after attempting to take off.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.20pm and the Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene.

The man injured his ribs and shoulder in the accident, and a paramedic response vehicle also went to the site.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “An RAF Sea King was also scrambled, but was stood down after initial assessment of the patient.

“After treatment at the scene, he was stretchered down to the air ambulance, and flown to the Cumberland Infirmary [in Carlisle] for further treatment.”

The rescue operation took a little over two hours and involved 15 volunteer members of the Keswick team. It was Keswick MRT’s 15th callout of the year.
