Innovative outdoor brand Polartec is on the lookout for adventurers to get a cash hand-out for their projects.

The company is inviting applications for the annual Polartec Challenge Grant, which supports the spirit and practice of human-powered outdoor adventure.

Last year British climber, Malcolm Bass won a grant, making him the first Brit in five years to make it through the gruelling judging process.

Bass and his team’s proposal to climb the Southwest face of Rimo III in the Indian Karakorum were one of six projects to receive the Polartec Challenge grant in 2012.

Polartec recently announced the recipients of this year’s 22nd annual Polartec Challenge Grant.

Four adventures will receive funding and support from Polartec in 2013: a source-to-sea expedition across Siberia; a paddle and bike trip across Asia; a bicycle traverse of Australia and a sail and ski trip in and around Iceland and Greenland.

Polartec global director of marketing Allon Cohne said: “Since 1991, Polartec has assisted some of the world’s greatest athletes and explorers who rely on our products and put them to the ultimate test.

“Polartec engineers fabrics designed for performance in all climates – from lightweight next-to-skin layers, to innovative insulation and breathable waterproof protection.

“The 2013 Polartec Challenge Grant recipients exemplify Polartec’s commitment to expanding our perception of what’s possible and we’re proud to support them.”

As well as the grant money, all of this year’s Polartec Challenge winners will be fully outfitted with Polartec garments, designed to keep them warm, dry and comfortable in the harshest climates.

The company is now looking to support more low-impact teams who respect the local culture and environment and serve as role models to outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.

Bids will be evaluated on the basis of vision, commitment, educational and cultural value, Polartec said.

Applications for 2014 are now open and information on how to apply can be found on the Polartec website.  The deadline for entries is 31 December 2013.
