Would-be adventurers will come under the spotlight at a mountain festival as they bid for a grant from a leading outdoor gear brand.

The Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge will make a return to the Keswick Mountain Festival and will see five shortlisted entries make their pitch for cash and gear.

Think of a scaled-down Dragon’s Den for the outdoors, but without the disadvantage of having to give part of your project away.

Berghaus is offering £1,000 in cash and another £1,000-worth of kit to the winners.

A live audience will help judge the challenges up for the award. A combination of the judging panel and public acclaim will decide the overall winner, but every shortlisted entrant will receive a jacket and rucksack from the latest Berghaus range.

The Berghaus Live for Adventure Challenge was held live for the first time last year at the Keswick Mountain Festival which will again stage the event.

The competition is open for entries now and members of the public have until 5pm on 19 April to submit their adventurous ideas.

The Berghaus Live for the Adventure Challenge will take place in the Adventure Theatre in the Festival Village on Crow Park, on Saturday 18 May.

More details, along with terms and conditions, are available on the Berghaus website.

Explorer and television presenter Monty Halls has been added to the list of speakers at the festival.

He joins a programme that includes Touching the Void climber Simon Yates and family climbing double act Andy Kirkpatrick and daughter Ella.

Monty Halls is perhaps known best for the three Great Escape series he presented on BBC2 which saw him and his much loved four-legged companion Reuben living on the west coast of Scotland, the Outer Hebrides and the west coast of Ireland.

Halls has also filmed the award winning Great Barrier Reef for the BBC’s Natural History Unit, as well as the highly acclaimed Fisherman’s Apprentice for BBC2, which tells the story of the threats facing the livelihood of the small fleet fishing industry in the UK.

Halls is currently filming a new series about his expeditions and is expected to reveal more during Keswick Mountain Festival.

Lucy Scrase, KMF director, said: “Monty has appeared at Keswick Mountain Festival before and proved to be extremely popular with visitors.

“I am really pleased that we are able to welcome him back this year. His show completes a really varied programme of speakers and the Saturday line up promises some great entertainment.”

The festival will run from 15 to 19 May. More details, including prices and booking arrangements, are on the Keswick Mountain Festival website.
