Black Diamond's clothing is minimalist in design

Black Diamond, one of the top names in climbing and skiing equipment, has unveiled its first clothing range.

The kit features Polartec fabrics and will appear in the shops in September.

The first offerings are technical jackets, trousers and insulating layers aimed at mountaineers and climbers but which the will also be a boon to hillwalkers.

The first releases will be for men but a women’s range will follow in autumn 2014.

The Black Diamond Coefficient range uses Polartec’s Power Dry High Efficiency fabric, with the jacket selling at £110, the pant at £85 and vest at £95.

The fabric features a bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimised to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.

The fabric weighs less, takes up less pack space and delivers more insulation and breathability than most fabrics in their class.

Soft surface next-to-skin provides comfort and it can be machine washed. The company said these slim-fit midlayers are ideal lightweight technical fleeces for any season and perfect for layering or wearing on their own.

The jacket and vest is available in Cinder (orange), Jasper (moss green), Granite (dark grey) and Onyx (black) and the Pant comes in Jasper and Onyx.

The Solution range uses Polartec Power Stretch and has a hoody at £145, the jacket at £125 and quarter-zip top at £129.

The fabric features a body-hugging four-way stretch and offers optimum breathability, keeping you dry when you sweat and providing warmth without weight.

The minimalist design is incorporated into the functional midlayers which are engineered to move without restriction and built to last. They are available in Salton (light teal blue), Burnt Ember (orange), Mineral (dark moss green) and Onyx (black).

The Crag range has a jacket and hoody which both use Polartec Windbloc.

The hoody will retail at £160 and the jacket at £145.

The company said the tops are suitable for use both on the mountain and in town, with the fabric blocking 100 per cent of the wind. It is also water repellent, breathable and stretchy.

The Crag Hoody comes with an adjustable helmet-compatible hood and both jackets in the range have an interior zipped media pocket with port for iPods or phones.

The range is available in Azurite (dark teal blue), Burnt Ember (orange), Jasper (moss green) and Onyx (black).
