A walker was airlifted to hospital after injuring herself on a Lakeland fell.

The woman was coming down Goat’s Hawse between the Old Man of Coniston and Dow Crag today when she fell and injured her leg.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 4.05pm and members went to the site.

A North West Air Ambulance helicopter also flew to the scene and rescue team members treated her along with paramedics from the air ambulance.

She was then stretchered back up to the top of Goat’s Hawse to the waiting aircraft, which flew her to Furness General Hospital in Barrow in Furness for further treatment.

The rescue involved 14 volunteers from Coniston Mountain Rescue Team.
