The Vaude Terraspace, new for 2013

A range of tents designed specifically for the British market has been updated.

Vaude launched its Terra tents last year and announced the collection would only be sold through selected retailers who could provide specialist advice, product demonstrations and after-sales support.

The German brand said the 2013 models are based on classic Vaude designs with new and improved features, and make ideal tents for outdoor adventures and backpacking excursions.

“Several key design features have been integrated specifically for the needs of the UK backpacker.

“This includes simultaneous pitching of the inner and fly sheet, which means that when pitching in the rain the inner won’t get wet, and extra-large porch designs for more internal space to store gear and keep it dry, as well as providing more space to cook out of the wind.

“Fully seam-taped ripstop fly sheet fabrics offer a lightweight but abrasion-resistant tough waterproof protection, and aluminium alloy poles, high-tech fabrics and a lack of unnecessary features give very impressive low weight figures.

“Furthermore, the unique tent bag provided allows the whole tent to be compressed down to minimise pack size.”

The two- and three-person Terratrio is based on the brand’s classic Taurus design and has just two main poles with two mini-poles sewn into the flysheet at the rear corners to improve stability in wind and give more foot space.

The fly is made from 70D polyester with 5000mm hydrostatic head, with the groundsheet also in 70D polyester but with 6000mm waterproofing.

Respective weights are 2.45kg and 2.7kg, with pack dimensions 50 x 22cm and 50 x 24cm.

The Terratrios retail at £175 and £195.

The three-person Terraquattro is an update of the Vaude Mark II. Its unique external suspension system first launched more than 20 years ago makes it one of the quickest pitching tents available.

It weighs 3.5kg and packs down to 50 x 22cm. The fabrics and waterproof ratings are the same as the Terratrio and the Terraquattro sells at £270.

The three-person Terraspace, retailing at £210, is new for 2013 and is based on the Space tent.

It has mesh pole sleeves and a new specification fabric in abrasion-resistant 70D polyester in a hexagonal ripstop pattern and, like the other two models, pitches with the fly and inner together.

Its tent bag allows compression of the packed tent down to 55 x 24cm and the model weighs 3.49kg.
