The body of a walker has been found by rescuers in the Highlands.

Police Scotland said the man was reported overdue today after going walking in the Fannichs, in Wester Ross.

A search was mounted by Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team and an RAF Sea King helicopter joined the search in the area around Braemore, south of Ullapool.

The man’s body was found by team members.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A post-mortem [examination] will be carried out. No further details are being released at this time.”

  • Yesterday, a woman’s body was found in the River Broom near Ullapool.

The discovery followed a major search for Catriona Macleod, 58, of Ullapool, who had not been seen since Thursday.

Members of the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team were joined by the Coastguard, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Search and Rescue Dogs Association members, police dogs and a police helicopter.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will follow. There are no suspicious circumstances.”
