The man was stretchered from the Dales Way near Windermere

Rescuers had to stretcher a walker for a kilometre after he injured himself on a national trail.

The man was walking the Dales Way when he slipped and injured his leg near Windermere yesterday.

Kendal Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 3.45pm after a request from the ambulance service.

The walker was treated at the scene by team members before being carried to a waiting ambulance.

The Dales Way is a 135km (84-mile) route between Ilkley in West Yorkshire and Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria.
