Adam Perry, who clinched the Fellsman title by one minute

Just one minute separated the winner and runner-up after more than 10 hours racing in one of the country’s toughest endurance challenges.

Adam Perry won the Fellsman, the 98km (61-mile) traverse of most of the Yorkshire Dales’ high peaks in one of the closest finishes in the event’s history.

A few metres behind him was Ian Phillips, repeating his second place of last year.

Third place went to Fellsman virgin Kim Collison, who set the early pace but lost the lead after the Fleet Moss checkpoint on the return leg into Wharfedale.

A field of 402 started the event from Ingleton, in a mixture of cool windy weather interspersed with wintry showers and sunny breaks.

By afternoon, the early snow had melted on Ingleborough and the other fells over which the Fellsman, in its 51st year, takes place, and sunshine was prevalent.

Many of the competitors are still out on the hills, navigating their way through the night over Dodd Fell, Middle Tongue, Buckden Pike and Great Whernside.

Adam Perry, who works for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority in Sedbergh, won the 2013 Fellsman in 10hrs 34mins.
