A mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after injuring himself in the Lake District.

The 25-year-old from Manchester fell from his bike and injured his head near Stool End Farm in Great Langdale today.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out and the Great North Air Ambulance also flew to the scene at 2.20pm.

The rider was knocked out in the incident, but regained consciousness.

The rescue team and a doctor from the Pride of Cumbria helicopter treated him and an RAF Sea King helicopter also flew to the area and airlifted him to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne for further treatment.
