Police have named the walker who died after collapsing near the summit of a Cairngorms mountain on Tuesday.

Norman Smith, 61, of Dunfermline, Fife, was with a group on Beinn Bhrotain when he collapsed and fell.

He was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness but pronounced dead.

Braemar Mountain Rescue Team went to the scene on the 1,157m (3,796ft) munro and helped Mr Smith’s companions to safety.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and as is normal practice, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
