The Edelrid Satellite 20 UL

Climbing brand Edelrid has introduced a featherweight daysack weighing less than many waterproof jackets.

The Satellite 20 UL tips the scales at 490g but is a fully featured pack with two compartments.

The German brand said the pack is designed to appeal to walkers and mountaineers who value minimal weight, without compromising on features.

“This is thanks to the choice of ultralight ripstop nylon for the body construction, which allows for sufficient durability and shape-retention without adding unwanted grams,” Edelrid said.

“The Satellite 20 UL is formed of two compartments, a spacious 20L body and a separate zipped lid pocket.

“Fit is always of critical importance when selecting a rucksack and the Satellite takes a novel approach to obtaining the ideal fit for each individual user.

“This is thanks to a four-way fit system wherein both the height and the angle of the straps can be adjusted for complete comfort.

“This is achieved by way of the tech webbing located across the straps. Double pull cords at the base of the straps adjust the height, with separate loops used to tighten or loosen the webbing, while double pull cords at the shoulder adjust the angle, once again separate loops are used here for the same function.”

The Satellite features a thermoformed back padding, which alongside the ergonomically-shaped shoulder straps allow the pack to be worn close to the body with good ventilation and load distribution.

Additional features include: a removable moulded PE back plate, removable ice tool attachment points and stowable side compression straps, allowing the Satellite to be stripped back even further should the need arise.

The rucksack retails at £80. More details are on the Edelrid website and on the BananaFingers site.
