Rescuers covering the Dartmoor national park have a new home.

The Dartmoor Rescue Team (Plymouth) has taken possession of the keys to its base at Broadley Park near Roborough.

The team, which is one of four covering Dartmoor, is now embarking on a fundraising campaign to buy the building, which it is leasing, outright.

The team said its new, bigger base is less than a mile from the national park boundary.

Publicity officer Neil Handley said: “Fundraising will include moorland sponsored walks, safety cover for events, attendance at church or village events, lectures and talks to groups and partnership activities with Plymouth University.”

He added: “The new centre, being much larger than the previous one, will provide storage for two rescue vehicles and associated equipment. Also new for the team will be a large area for a dual team-training or public-education facility on site.”

More team details are on its website.
