The boy was making his way down Scafell Pike when he tore his calf muscle

Rescuers went to the aid of a boy who injured his leg while coming down from England’s highest mountain.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was joined by members of the Duddon and Furness team after being called out at 3.45pm yesterday to the incident at Brown Tongue on Scafell Pike.

The 15-year-old was treated at the scene after injuring his calf muscle when he slipped on wet grass on the descent.

The Wasdale team doctor treated the walker and he was then stretchered off the mountain by rescuers.

The rescue, which lasted a little less than four hours, involved 11 volunteer members of the Wasdale team.
