Two mountain rescue teams braved conditions described as wild to reach a walker who injured her leg on the Howgill Fells.

Kendal Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.40pm yesterday, Saturday, and was joined in the operation by members of the Kirkby Stephen team at the site near Pickering Gill on the eastern flanks of The Calf.

Rescuers gave the woman pain relief and splinted her leg before stretchering her down to a waiting ambulance at Cautley.

A Kendal MRT spokesperson said: “The party was well equipped, gave good information on their location and signalled their precise position with a torch.

“The conditions could be described as wet and wild and we were grateful for the assistance given by our friends in the Kirkby Stephen team.”
