A walker was stretchered from a Lake District fell after slipping and injuring himself.

The man, in his 60s, injured his ankle in the incident while walking on Hole Rake between Coppermines Valley and Tilberthwaite on the Coniston Fells yesterday.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team as called out at 1.35pm and treated the walker at the site before carrying him to one of the team’s Land Rover ambulances.

He was then taken to the team’s Coniston base from where a waiting ambulance took him to Furness General Hospital, Barrow in Furness, for further treatment.

The rescue involved 14 volunteer team members.
