A walker has died after falling 1,000ft on a Highland munro.

Daniel Leaf, 55, of Edinburgh, was walking with a group on Ben Alder on Saturday when he fell from The Prow, a ridge on the 1,148m (3,766ft) mountain.

Fellow walkers raised the alarm about 3pm and a Royal Navy Sea King search and rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet in Ayrshire flew to the remote peak, north-east of Rannoch, but Mr Leaf, who worked for an investment company, died from injuries he suffered in the 300m fall.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
