The pair were tackling a climb on Tryfan's East Face

Two climbers had to be airlifted from a Snowdonia mountain after they got stuck.

A man and his 24-year-old son, from Cheshire, were tackling the Grooved Arête route on the East Face of Tryfan yesterday, when they called for help.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 4pm.

Team spokesman Chris Lloyd said the father had climbing experience, but his son was a novice.

Half way up the route, they were unable either to ascend or descend and called 999.

Mr Lloyd said: “They were winched to safety by 22 Squadron from RAF Valley and flown down to Oggie Base, where team members had gathered ready for deployment on the mountain.

“Hopefully, they will have learned some lessons from this experience and will return one day to complete this classic rock climb.”
