An injured climber was airlifted to hospital after he was discovered by a passing walker on a Peak District hillside.

The Wakefield man, in his mid-40s, was found after falling about 50ft on Laddow Rocks on Black Hill.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.20pm yesterday and requested help from Oldham MRT and Holme Valley colleagues, some of whom were with them at the time.

Glossop team spokesman Peter Jozefczyk said: “Because of the location and reported injuries we requested the deployment of an RAF Sea King helicopter from Leconfield.

“The man had fallen between 12m and 15m, sustaining multiple injuries to his left side. He was treated on scene by the team followed by the winch onboard the RAF Sea King, which was able to fly the man to Sheffield Northern General Hospital.”

The 3½-hour rescue involved 15 Glossop MRT volunteers.
