A teenage walker was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after falling on a Lake District fell.

The 17-year-old girl from Salisbury, Wiltshire, was with a group walking in Raise Gill between Grisedale Tarn and Dunmail Rise today when she fell, suffering multiple injuries.

The Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene about 10am. An air ambulance spokesperson said: “Due to the low cloud the helicopter landed at the foot of the fell and the doctor and paramedic aircrew made their way up to the casualty’s location.

“On arrival they assessed and treated a 17-year-old female for multiple injuries.”

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was also called out and stretchered the injured girl down the gill to Dunmail Raise. Air ambulance crew members then carried out further treatment to her injuries, described as severe, before flying her to hospital in Preston, Lancashire.

The rescue involved 15 Langdale Ambleside team members.
