A walker in her 80s was airlifted to hospital after falling and injuring herself in the Lake District.

The woman was walking on the western shore of Windermere near Wray Castle on Sunday when the incident happened.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.30pm and joined ambulance paramedics in treating the walker for a serious leg injury.

A team spokesperson said: “She was stretchered a short distance to one of the team’s Land Rover ambulances and transferred to the care of North West Air Ambulance who flew her to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.”
