A group of outdoor writers will deliver a series of talks and advice sessions at a Manchester outdoors store.

The three Cicerone writers are hosting a day at the Manchester Ellis Brigham shop next Saturday.

The event begins at 11am with a map and compass workshop which is followed by talks on European, Alpine and Himalayan trekking. Proceeds from the day will go to mountain rescue.

A Cicerone spokesperson said: “Kev Reynolds, who describes himself as ‘the man with the world’s best job’, will be hosting two sessions.

“The first gives all the information you need to plan your first Alpine trek, from staying in a hut to choosing your first trip. The second will take you trekking in the Himalaya – a journey set among the highest mountain range in the world. Be inspired to plan a trip, or just enjoy the view from your chair – the choice is yours.”

“Completing the day is a map and compass workshop. Pete Hawkins is a great teacher and he has a knack of explaining essential navigation skills in an easy-to-understand way. The workshop is perfect for beginners but is also very valuable for those who want to brush up their skills.”

The event takes place on Saturday, 4 October, at the Ellis Brigham store on Duke Street in central Manchester. An all-day ticket costs £10 or individual session tickets are available at £5 each from the event’s website, which also has times.
