The pair were found at Cockley Beck, almost three miles from Bow Fell

An emergency call from two walkers lost in the Lake District was picked up by police on the Isle of Man.

The couple rang 999 today when they got lost on the fells as darkness fell.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team said the pair told Manx police they were lost on the back of Bow Fell.

Police passed on their details to the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Kinloss, Moray, who contacted the rescue team.

The rescuers were unable to contact the lost walkers by phone, so began a search and asked for the help of a search and rescue Sea King helicopter while stable weather held.

The couple were found at Cockley Beck, at the eastern end of the Hardknott Pass, and the aircraft was able to turn back.

The 3½ rescue involved nine volunteers from the Langdale Ambleside team.
