Edale MRT used its Land Rovers to get to patients

Volunteers from a mountain rescue team spent the night helping ambulance crews as snow prevented them reaching patients.

Members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team also helped members of the public stuck in vehicles in the Sheffield area after Boxing Day visits.

A small group used the team’s Land Rover to help as heavy snow made many routes difficult in South Yorkshire.

A team spokesperson said: “Shortly before midnight as demand hit, Yorkshire Ambulance Service requested the team’s assistance with an incident in Loxley, Sheffield.

“An ambulance crew was unable to access a property, other than on foot, to deliver emergency care to a patient.

“A team vehicle was dispatched to assist getting the patient to the abandoned ambulance. Also present at this incident were South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

“The team then followed the ambulance to hospital to ensure safe arrival.”

The spokesperson said two fully crewed vehicles were in action in Sheffield, helping with similar incidents until 7am today.

The spokesperson said: “Team members then returned home for some much needed sleep, anticipating that our services will be required again later.”
