Two walkers were injured in falls from England’s third highest mountain.
Both fell in separate incidents from Swirral Edge on Helvellyn yesterday, Saturday.
One of the walkers was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out and requested help from other teams.
A spokesperson for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “Patterdale MRT requested assistance as they had two simultaneous incidents, and half of their team was away winter training in Scotland.
“Both incidents involved fallers from Swirral Edge, with serious injuries resulting in one case.”
The Keswick team sent two vehicles and 10 members to the incidents, with Penrith and RAF Leeming Mountain Rescue Teams also joining the operation.
A Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland also flew to the site.
The Keswick spokesperson said: “One casualty with serious injuries was airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary by the Sea King. Another was brought down to Patterdale base by a Keswick vehicle.”
The incidents involved 14 Keswick team members for almost six hours.
