A walker was rescued after suffering a suspected broken ankle in the North York Moors.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue was called out at 3pm today when the woman fell on the Miners’ Trod on Kirby Bank.

Team doctors and medics were among the 22 members who went to the scene near the village of Kirkby and treated the walker’s injuries.

Team spokesman Graeme White said, after treatment she was stretchered over a long distance to the nearest road at Pybus camping ground and handed over to the ambulance service which took her to hospital.

He said: “The weather on the moors today was very cold so it was vital that we located the casualty as soon as possible to administer casualty care.

“We placed the injured casualty into a group shelter and this allowed us to assess the injury and keep the elements away from the casualty before transporting her to the ambulance.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”

The rescue lasted two hours and was the team’s fifth this year.
