The man fell while walking on Wetherlam

A walker was rescued after suffering injuries in a 30ft fall from a Lakeland mountain.

The man was walking with friends on Wetherlam yesterday when he fell and injured his back and face.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 11.20am and went to the scene on Wetherlam Edge. The North West Air Ambulance also flew to the scene and medics from the helicopter joined mountain rescue team members in treating his injuries on the mountain.

A second helicopter, a Sea King search and rescue aircraft from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland, also flew to the scene and winched the injured walker aboard and he was then flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.

The rescue involved 16 volunteer members of Coniston MRT.
