A Peak District mountain rescue team had to break off its fundraising activities over the Easter weekend to go to the aid of an injured walker.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team members were out collecting in Bakewell, Hathersage and Edale on Monday when they received the call about 1.30pm.

A woman walking with her family in the Burbage South area slipped and hurt her leg and shoulder on the steep descent below Carl Wark.

Ed Proudfoot of the Edale team said: “A team paramedic administered intravenous analgesia whilst the stretcher was readied.

“Because of her shoulder injury the lady was supported on the stretcher partially sitting instead of flat as we would usually carry.

“This helped alleviate some of her discomfort as she was carried back to the roadhead and to the waiting ambulance.”

It was the team’s 39th incident of the year.
