Walkers who want a permanent reminder of their favourite outdoor sight will be able to use a Lake District retailer’s service with a difference.

Keswick store George Fisher had an inkling outdoor fans would love a piece of body art as a souvenir of their visit to the national park.

So the shop has hired a tattoo artist to craft suitably outdoorsy pieces of body decoration for its customers.

George Fisher already operates a monthly hillwalking clinic with a resident podiatrist who can diagnose and treat on site. The success of this service prompted the retailer to expand its services to attract customers across more ages and sexes.

Company director Andy Airey said: “One in three young adults has a tattoo, and the trend is only going to get bigger.

“It’s estimated that one in five of the UK population is tattooed and this figure rises to one in three for young adults. Recent research indicates we’ll reach ‘peak tattoo’ around 2025, so we wanted to get ahead of the curve here in Keswick.”

The company has hired mobile tattoo artist John Winkham, who will run the clinic on the first Saturday of every month.

“We’ve asked John to come up with ideas for customers looking for a more permanent souvenir of their visit to the Lakes,” Mr Airey said. “You could have a stunning replica of your favourite Lakeland fell or peak, or even a replica of the iconic George Fisher climber.”

People wishing to book the tattoo clinic at George Fisher should call the store on 017687 72178.
