A man has died after falling on a Lochaber mountain.

The walker was descending from the summit of Aonach Beag with a companion on Thursday when the incident happened.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called out late in the afternoon and the Inverness Coastguard helicopter also flew to the scene, but police said the walker had suffered fatal injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Lochaber Police are liaising with the man’s next of kin and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.

“The man was walking with a male companion who was not injured. Further details on the man’s identity will be released in due course.

“Police would like to thank partner agencies for their assistance during the incident.”

Aonach Beag is a 1,234m (4,049ft) munro, the seventh highest in the UK and the second highest in Lochaber, after Ben Nevis.
