A woman was rescued from a Lakeland fell after breaking her ankle when she slipped.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out shortly after 11pm on Sunday to the incident on Thornythwaite Fell in Borrowdale.

The 34-year-old suffered the suspected fracture on the hill in the Glaramara range.

A team spokesperson said: “At this time of night the Borrowdale valley road was fortunately free of the bank holiday traffic and so good progress was made to Mountain View.

“From here the team made the ascent up Thornythwaite Fell and quickly located and treated the casualty. She was then carried by stretcher to a waiting ambulance and transported to the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle.”

The two-hour rescue involved 11 volunteers from the team.
