A group of walkers were handed fines after being rescued from a mountain in the southern Highlands.

Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team was called out for the first time during lockdown when three hillwalkers got lost in mist on The Cobbler.

Team members were alerted at 3.20pm on Sunday.

A team spokesperson said: “All three were located and safely escorted down the hill, from a safe distance.

“Police met them at the bottom to discuss and explain the current Scottish regulation on travel during lockdown and issued them with the relevant fine.”

Scottish Government Covid-19 regulations dictate that exercise, including hiking, must be taken a short distance from home.
