Rescuers used phone technology to locate two lost walkers on England’s second-highest mountain.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team gave the pair directions to descend from the flanks of Sca Fell and then met them as they made their way down the fell.

The team was alerted about 9.50pm on Thursday after the two walkers called police to say they were lost.

Wasdale MRT used the PhoneFind system, which placed them in the Quagrigg Moss area, south of the mountain’s summit.

The team leader contacted the two walkers by phone, then directed them to walk towards Oliver Gill and Burnmoor Tarn.

A team spokesperson said: “A team was deployed, including our search dog Jess. They met the walkers just north of Burnmoor Tarn and walked them safely back to their cars.”

The rescue ended just after 1.10am on Friday and involved eight team members.
