An injured dog was the first of three ‘customers’ for a rescue team in the same area on one day.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team was first called out at lunchtime on Tuesday to Sgŵd y Pannwr in waterfall country in the South of the Brecon Beacons national park.

Dyfed-Powys Police contacted the team after a dog fell about 30ft over the waterfall.

A team spokesperson said: “We’re grateful to a large group of passers-by who helped the owners recover Alfie, a German pointer, to the footpath.

“Sadly, poor Alfie was in too much pain to walk or be carried to the car park, so was treated to a very gentle lift onto one of our stretchers and carefully carried to vehicle transport to a local vets.”

The dog’s owners later contacted the rescuers to say he had fractured his leg in two places and will be operated on but is expected to make a good recovery.

As rescuers made their way home, they were called back to the footpath at the same waterfall to aid a woman who stumbled on the path and suffered a suspected lower leg fracture.

“Following pain relief, splint immobilisation and our second stretcher carry of the day, we carried her to the waiting ambulance,” the spokesperson said.

“We wish the lady a full and speedy recovery.”

As the rescue volunteers were stretchering the woman to the ambulance, two walkers stopped at the team’s control vehicle to say their companion had gone missing after becoming separated while visiting the waterfalls.

The spokesperson said: “Team members were deployed along the waterfalls trails and a team member dispatched to check all the car parks. The missing gent was located safe and well at Cwm Porth car park and our response vehicle reunited the friends for their journey home.”
