A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fellside after injuring his arm in a fall.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 8.17pm to the incident on the path below Styhead Tarn.
The 35-year-old walker suffered a serious fracture dislocation of his arm when he stumbled and fell awkwardly.
A team spokesperson said: “The initial reports were serious enough that a Coastguard helicopter was requested.
“Two team vehicles set out from base and approached from Seathwaite in Borrowdale. On arrival at the scene a team doctor administered strong analgesia before re-aligning the dislocation.
“The arm was splinted and strapped up; the casualty was then loaded onto a stretcher in time for a winch extraction courtesy of the Coastguard – many thanks to them once again. Thanks also for the help of team members from Bowland Pennine MRT who were in the area.”
The injured walker was flown to Furness General Hospital for treatment.
The incident lasted four hours and involved 19 Keswick MRT volunteers.
The Keswick team was called out earlier in the day to aid a walker suffering bad cramps on the descent from Helvellyn near the top of Browncove Crags.
The spokesperson said: “Two vehicles set out from base and set out up the hill from Swirls – not before redirecting a party who had also descended from Helvellyn and were looking for Glenridding!
“Fortunately for us the 55-year-old female and her daughter had made good progress helped by a group of walkers. Many thanks to them for reducing our workload.
“After a quick medical check over and some pain relief the team managed to walk her supported on both sides a further short distance down the path, but the lady was suffering and the slow pace meant that it was better all round to stretcher her down to the car park at Swirls.”
The rescue lasted almost three hours and involved 12 team members.

09 August 2021I wish we could have some regular public education on the causes, prevention and self treatmernt of cramp!
I'm not wanting to comment adversely about this incident as it can easily happen to anyone but I just wish that people generally could be more aware of how to prevent or deal with it. I can fully understand how serious it might seem if you aren't familiar with it and I know how painful it can be!
Of course it is very serious if you get cramp swimming but eve then it can be dealt with.
