A hillwalker died yesterday after falling from a ridge in Snowdonia.

The 46-year-old man fell from Mynydd Tal-y-Mignedd, near Beddgelert forest. He was walking with a party when he fell 50 metres. Llanberis and Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Teams went to the man’s aid, along with a helicopter from RAF Kinloss. The walker, believed to be from the South of England, was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, but was pronounced dead.

The latest death on Britain’s hills follows the fatalities on Cairn Gorm in Scotland and in the Newlands valley in the Lake District.
