This news is for women only, so all the male readers of grough can go away and play with their GPSs for a couple of minutes.

As part of the Keswick Mountain Festival, Pace the Peaks, a woman-run mountain walk outfit, is organising a female-only walk up Causey Pike – and there’s a free gift for everyone who takes part.

Festival organisers said: “If you enjoy walking with other women, this is for you.

“Start the day with a trip on the launch across Derwent Water. Cross the fields before climbing Causey Pike which includes some easy scrambling, but don't let this put you off. Descend down the delightful hidden valley of Rigg Beck.”

All participants will receive a Shewee, a device to enable women to stand shoulder to shoulder with men when the call of nature dictates a comfort break. Shewee is sponsoring the event and promises users of its product that its device, which enables women to pee without squatting, will become as essential an accessory as lipstick. It apparently caused great amusement among the male members of the panel on Dragon’s Den when it was touted in 2005.

The walk takes place on Wednesday, 16 May. Details are on the Keswick Mountain Festival website follow the links to outdoor activities and then walks.

Details of the Shewee are on the company’s website.
