Julia Bradbury on Scafell Pike during filming of the first series of Wainwright's Walksgrough’s eyes and ears on the fells tell us one of Mosedale’s most famous peaks will feature in the next series of Wainwright’s Walks.

The mountain’s 892m height puts it just below the 3,000 footers. It ranks eighth in the Lake District pantheon, and divides Ennerdale from Wasdale. The film crew was on the fell a couple of weeks back.

As well as belonging to that strange list of peaks designated Nuttalls by dint of having a drop of 15m or more around it, its most prominent feature, Pillar Rock, was immortalised in William Wordsworth’s The Brothers.

Pillar features in book seven in Wainwright’s series of Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells. The second series of the television series is due for broadcast later this year. Thanks to the group of Essex schoolteachers who passed on the sighting to our informant on the top of Scafell. The felltop telegram is working well. In the meantime, if you’ve spotted Ms Bradbury on the Cumbrian mountains, let us know.
