Beinn Dorain, with some local wildlifeTwo stranded walkers were found by rescuers at midnight on a Scottish Munro.

The men had ventured up the 1,074m (3,524ft) Beinn Dorain in Glen Orchy without a map, compass or torch. They rang emergency services at 2.35pm on Boxing Day but were not found until nearly nine hours later.

The men, aged 27 and 30 and from Haddington, were criticised by police for going ill equipped on to the mountain. Insp Neil Wallace told The Press and Journal newspaper: “If you are going hillwalking you must go prepared.

“At this time of year there is the least daylight, and you need a torch. They didn't have a map, compass or torch.”

They were found unharmed but cold by members of the Oban and Arrochar Mountain Rescue Teams. 22 of their members took part in the operation.
