Northern Constabulary issued details of the man whose remains were found near Loch Einich in the Cairngorms this week. It is believed he may have been there for some weeks.

Police issued the appeal for information today. They would like any members of the public who were in the area around Loch Einich during July and August this year, and who may have seen the lone tent near the loch, to contact them.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have spoken to the man at the Rothiemurcus campsite near Aviemore or along the Speyside Way during June 2008.

He is described by the police as slim, about 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall and about 50 years old. He was using a green Vaude tent and had a black North Face jacket and wore combat style trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Aviemore police station on 01479 810222.

A spokesman for the police said “Details of the deceased will not be released until formal identification has been carried out and this has still not been carried out as family have to make their way from south of the border.”
