Northern Constabulary said the man was Douglas Murray King, 51, of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. He was known as ‘Murray’.

A spokesman for the family said: “Murray was an accomplished writer and photographer and loved nothing more than to write about his travels and the characters he met along the way.

“He loved the outdoors and the mountains and this featured heavily in his writing and photography. He truly was a character who left a positive mark on those he met.

“He will be sadly missed by his family and friends and we ask that our privacy be respected so we can grieve in peace.”

Mr Murray’s remains were found near Loch Einich, near Rothiemurchus after a gamekeeper investigated the tent, which had been there for some time.

Police said no further details of the deceased are available.
