A walker was airlifted to hospital today after falling from Striding Edge.

The 17-year-old man was winched from the scene by and RAF helicopter after he slipped and tumbled 30m (100ft) on to the Red Tarn side of the ridge. 13 members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to the walker’s aid.

He was treated at the scene by team members along with a doctor and air-ambulance paramedic.

The alarm was raised about midday today by a passing walker who directed the team to the man’s location. The injured walker was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for treatment.
